Thanks to breast milk, the content of which can vary from one mother to another, in the same mother during the day or between the beginning and end of breastfeeding, according to the needs of the baby, every mother creates miracles suitable for her baby!
Stating that all these good effects of breast milk, which provides many benefits both physically, psychologically and socially, should be known and breastfeeding should be supported, one of the group companies of Türkiye İş Bankası Bayındır Health Group, Dr. from Bayındır Söğütözü Hospital Pediatrics Department. Instructor Member Laden Jaferi conveyed important information about breast milk.
Breast milk, which meets all the needs of babies except for vitamins D and K during the first 6 months, also shows a protective effect against infections and allergens with the antibodies and cells it contains.
Stating that breast milk, which can be shaped according to the age and condition of the baby, is a living food, Dr. from Bayındır Söğütözü Hospital Pediatrics Department. Instructor Member Laden Jaferi said, “The content of breast milk can vary from one mother to another, during the day in the same mother, between the beginning and the end of breastfeeding, according to the needs of the baby. In fact, the amount of protein in the milk of mothers of premature babies is higher. From the same udder, milk with high protein and water content at first, and then oily milk begins to come. Thus, short-term suckling babies get protein and water, and they get hungry faster and suckle more often. In short, every mother creates the appropriate miracle for her baby. Breast milk also affects adult life and protects it from some diseases in the long run. In addition, it also contributes to the mental and physical well-being of the mother.”
Breastfeeding is very beneficial not only for the baby but also for the mother.
Breastfeeding doesn't just offer physical benefits for the baby. Breastfeeding also has very beneficial effects for the mother.
Explaining the benefits of breast milk for both the baby and the mother, Dr. Instructor Member Laden Jaferi made the following statements: “Because breast milk prevents infections and feeding disorders and reduces sudden infant death syndrome, it also reduces the death rate in infants. It prevents acute middle ear infection, respiratory tract and stomach, intestinal and urinary tract infections. It is also known that childhood cancers such as lymphoma and leukemia are rarely observed in breastfed infants. Allergic conditions such as childhood asthma and atopic dermatitis are less common in breastfed infants. It is also thought to be protective for type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. It strengthens the bond between mother and baby in terms of growth and development and strengthens the relationship between them. Jaw and tooth development, as well as language and motor development, are better in breastfed babies. Breast milk also protects children from neurodevelopmental diseases such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity. It is among the facts proven that breastfeeding prevents obesity, type 2 diabetes, inflammatory bowel diseases, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular diseases in adult life. In addition, the mother expends a lot of energy while breastfeeding and this makes it easier for the mother to return to her prenatal weight. Breastfeeding activates hormones and causes the muscles in the uterus to contract, so that the uterus easily returns to its original size and bleeding decreases. Since it suppresses the menstrual cycle, it partially provides protection from pregnancy. By strengthening the bond between mother and baby, it further develops the feeling of motherhood and reduces the risk of postpartum depression by calming the mother. Besides, breastfeeding protects the mother from osteoporosis and reduces the risk of ovarian and breast cancer.
WAYS TO INCREASE BREAST MILK!
Emphasizing that in order to increase breast milk production, the mother should be willing and self-confident to receive adequate support in this regard, Pediatrics Specialist Dr. Instructor Member Laden Jaferi said, “This support needs to be provided by both the family and the health personnel. Early postpartum contact, early breastfeeding, regular and complete emptying of the breast, night breastfeeding, and even the mother and baby being in the same room stand out as the most important factors that increase milk. In addition, adequate fluid intake is very important. The most basic rule is plenty of fluid intake and effective emptying of the breast. The mother's being reluctant, unhappy and anxious, lack of support from the environment, interpretation of every cry as hunger, and ineffective emptying of the breast play a role in reducing milk production.
“BREASTFEEDING MUST BECOME COMMON”
Stating that breast milk is very economical, accessible, fresh and clean, it is very advantageous, therefore, efforts should be made to spread it. Instructor Member Laden Jaferi concluded by listing what needs to be done to make breastfeeding more common:
By taking political and societal steps regarding breastfeeding
Emzirmenin her yerde her zaman yapılabileceği topluma anlatılmalı. awareness should be increased. Before and after birth, the mother should be supported and encouraged about breastfeeding. In order to achieve this, the following health personnel should be trained at every step. If possible, skin-to-skin contact between the mother and the baby should be ensured and the baby should suckle within the first 1 hour. The baby should be provided with only breast milk for the first 6 months and the mother should be supported in this regard.
