ARCHIMIM organized an event for a sustainable world and construction, in partnership with the Chamber of Interior Architects in Izmir, the Chamber of Architects, the Association of Freelance Architects, and with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Many foreign and local industry professionals will share their experiences at the event organized under the name "Architecture for Mediterranean ECOLOGY" (''ARCH FOR M.E.''). How the architecture of the future can be sustainable and how it can be made ecological will all be discussed.
There is a fact that we all know, and that is that our world is under great threat due to global warming. According to the declaration of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the era of global warming is over and the era of global boiling has begun instead. All research shows that if the necessary precautions are not taken, many flora and fauna species will face the danger of extinction by 2050.
One of the most important areas that cause this threat to the world is energy consumption in buildings. More than one third of this threat is caused by energy consumption in buildings. It becomes very important for a building to be sustainable, to be designed ecologically, and to ensure maximum energy savings in buildings. Here too, the key actors are architects and interior designers.
ARCHIMIM, which established this platform to bring this issue to the agenda, is in partnership with the Chamber of Interior Architects, the Chamber of Architects and the Association of Freelance Architects in Izmir, and with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. organized an event.
ARCH FOR M.E. brings together national and international industry professionals in Izmir. The main theme of the organization held in Izmir Bıçakçı Han is about how future-oriented construction should be designed.
LEAD ACTORS OF ARCH FOR M.E.
President of Izmir Chamber of Interior Architects: BURCU YAZGAN: The biggest challenge in the future is to open all areas to construction, to demolish and rebuild without protecting the cultural heritage, and to build a future by polluting everything with concrete, which causes global warming. While the consequences of ignorance and irresponsibility lead us to the disasters we experience today, sustainability is justice between the past and the future. Arch for M.E. titled 'Mediterranean Ecology', which we organized for the first time in Turkey with successful collaborations. The event constitutes the first step of a great work by increasing knowledge and raising awareness in this field with professional participants from Turkey and Mediterranean cities.
President of Izmir Association of Freelance Architects (SMD): DÜRRİN ULEMA: Building in harmony with nature, not against nature; is sustainability. The human being who struggles with himself, not with nature, is ecology itself. Humans are part of nature, while we are worried about life, we forget that we are a part of nature. In our world where winter turns into summer, clean water resources decrease, and healthy food becomes difficult to access, now is the time to remember what we have forgotten.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Izmir Chamber of Architects: İLKER KAHRAMAN: We are warming our world due to climate change, all our efforts are to keep this warming below two degrees. We know that even a two-degree difference will have a significant impact on the habitat, but we understand that we will miss this target from the calculation of the targets stated in the letters of intent signed in the Paris climate agreement. We know that the building sector is the most important sector in the fight against climate change and that the task falls on architects and interior designers. We all need to adopt a common goal, from producers to practitioners, regarding climate change and environmentally friendly approaches. This is why ARCH FOR ME is organized.
Izmir Association of Freelance Architects (SMD) Board Member: TAMER AKSÜT: During the recent pandemic process, people's ways of thinking about their living spaces and personal spaces in their homes and their reflections on their workplaces have undergone a silent but effective revolutionary change. Humans have realized their innate biological affinity for the natural world, both indoors and outdoors. ARCH FOR M.E. The event will re-discuss the sun, nature, biophilia and ecology throughout the countries bordering the Mediterranean, and create new connections on ecology and Mediterranean architecture by creating the opportunity to exhibit current building technologies and materials.
ARCHIMIM "WHY ARE WE ORGANIZING THIS PLATFORM?": We think that it is time for architects, the key actors of the construction industry, to take action to serve humanity, which is the only meaning of life. For this reason, we are organizing 'Architecture for Mediterranean ECOLOGY', that is, ARCH FOR M.E.
