Speaking about the project that aims to reduce traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions, Wang Shuling, director of the Beijing Transport Institute, said that Beijing's urban rail transportation network, which has expanded in recent years, has already reached a total of 807 kilometers with 27 lines.
Wang said, “We aim to take advantage of the excess capacity of subway systems during off-peak hours. "We aim to gradually ease traffic congestion while reducing the carbon emissions of the project," he said.
Zhou Yuan, one of the directors of the Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission, also said that the goods transported will undergo security checks to ensure that they comply with the catalog of prohibited items in the subways. Companies participating in the project designed reusable express delivery boxes compatible with urban rail system dimensions. In addition, special vehicles that can facilitate safe and comfortable transportation were also developed within the scope of the project.
