He also stated that in the Sea Age, dentists, who are important for public health, had troubled times in the face of increasing input and operating costs.
“Both consumables and personnel, energy prices, rent and other expenses have increased a lot. Since the election, we have experienced price increases of up to one hundred percent in some items. We could not reflect these increases to the citizens. We try to tolerate it within our own means. Moreover, we have difficulties in obtaining some materials. We are a commercial enterprise as much as we are a healthcare institution. We are affected by economic negativities. This situation is not very sustainable; because we foresee a long process ahead of us. After a while, personnel may be reduced in the sector. In order to prevent this situation, we want the 10 percent VAT rate introduced in the health sector to be reduced to 1 percent as it should be. Because health is not a luxury, it is a basic need.
CORRECT PLANNING IS NEEDED FOR EMPLOYMENT OF GRADUATES
Noting that newly graduated or experienced dentists want to go abroad, Deniz Cagda continued: “Universities need to make significant investments in terms of both time and cost in order to train a dentist. Our grown colleagues want to go abroad and continue their lives there. Countries like Germany, on the other hand, evaluate these young people without any effort or investment. In order to prevent this situation, a regulation should be brought to 110 dentistry faculties operating in Turkey. The number of students graduating every year is 8 thousand 500, and the need of our country is around 2 thousand annually. A certain strategic study should be done in this regard. Dentists should be employed with the right planning according to the conditions and needs of our country and the income level should be increased to satisfactory levels.
He added that they will bring together industry representatives and academicians at the 30th International Scientific Congress and Exhibition, which will be held by İZDO between 24-26 November this year.
