Reaching a market of 300 billion dollars in the world, the pet product materials and accessories sector draws attention with its 150 percent growth in the last 5 years. While the sector reaches a market of 1 billion dollars in Turkey, companies are turning to exports to get more shares from the global market. National Fairs General Manager Selçuk Çetin, who stated that the companies' target for the last period is export and foreign customers, said, "The sector aims to increase its exports of 250 million dollars to 400 million dollars with the search for new markets."
The pet product materials and accessories industry has grown by 150 percent in the last 5 years globally, reaching a market of 300 billion dollars. Stating that investments in the sector have increased recently, National Fairs General Manager Selçuk Çetin said, “Even though Turkey seems to be a country at the beginning of the road, it has become a sector that has turned to export by breaking the Chinese dominance in the last 5-6 years. According to the total consumer figures, Turkish companies approached 1 billion dollars. Exports account for 250 million dollars of this," he said.
Pointing out that Turkish companies in the pet sector are giving weight to exports in order to get a larger share from the global market, Çetin said, “One of the sectors that grew the most during the COVID-19 epidemic was the pet products sector. While the annual growth average of the Turkish pet products and services market is around 15 percent, this rate has increased to 50 percent during the pandemic period. Those who spend more time with their pets during the pandemic period also focused on their needs. All kinds of products and services related to pets can be produced in Turkey. Domestic products and services dominated the Turkish market, which was almost entirely dependent on imported products with foreign brands in the past, and we can say that it has even started to have a say abroad. The Turkish pet products industry continues to develop by increasing its technology and facility investments day by day, and we have companies that export to more than 60 countries. World giants have now started to invest in Turkish companies. Globally, there is a serious trust in Turkish companies and the Turkish market. Our industrialization attack, which started in the 1970s, is growing day by day. By the end of 2023, our industry will increase its exports to 400 million dollars with the search for new markets. I believe that we will become a brand country in the near future and become a big industry.”
The sector exports food to 70 countries and cat litter to 65 countries.
Stating that the annual growth rate of the pet products market is 17 percent and that it has grown by 150 percent in the last 5 years, Çetin said, “I can say that the pandemic has a great impact on this. Considering these figures, which express the sector growth until 2025 in the marketing reports, it is pointed out that the pet market will grow by 9.6 percent, especially in Asia, in the world economy, which shrank by 3.8 percent during the pandemic. This means a volume increase of 35 billion dollars after 4 years at the most, which we must quickly attract ourselves. There are approximately 600 companies operating in our sector, which exports food to 70 countries and cat litter to 65 countries. Recently, companies have targeted exports and foreign customers. Our industry aims to increase its exports, which is 250 million dollars, to 400 million dollars in 2023 with the search for new markets.” he said.
Growth will be doubled with Petzoo Eurasia fair
Stating that while the business volume contracted in many sectors during the pandemic period, the growth in the pet products market attracted attention, Çetin said, “Turkey has also kept up with this growth and our performance in the pet products market, which is approximately 300 billion dollars in the world, has approached 1 billion dollars. Our companies will increase the growth momentum in both production and exports with their significant investments. In addition, this growth will be doubled with Petzoo Eurasia, the most important pet fair of the region, which will be organized by the National Fair Organization on 12-15 October. In addition, visitors from 54 countries came to our fair in 2021. We anticipate that we will host visitors from more than 80 countries this year.” said.
