The fair is expected to create a business volume of 1 billion dollars, said Güçlü Kaplangı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSİD). In his opening speech, Güçlü Kaplangı said, “The industrial kitchen, laundry, service and catering equipment sector alone accounts for 40 percent of the general kitchenware export of 6.5 billion dollars. Our sector, where the foreign trade surplus is at its maximum level, closed the year 2022 with a significant success of 2.45 billion dollars. Our industry, one of the world's top 5 exporters, has an export target of 3.2 billion dollars for 2024. Turkish industrial kitchen industry exports to more than 150 countries. The main markets of our industry are Europe, the Middle East, the Balkans, CIS and neighboring countries. "Target markets are the United States, Africa and the Near East," he said. Exports increase by 50 percent with economies of scale Noting that China is the leader in home and kitchen goods exports with 160 billion dollars, Güçlü Kaplangı also drew attention to the scale problem in the sector. “In an industry where 95 percent of all members are SMEs, we need to move to economies of scale in order to gain market share from such a large-scale competitor. However, for this we must change our production locations. Most of us produce in multiplexes and on a smaller scale. We can compensate for this disadvantage due to our proximity to buyer markets and the opportunity to consolidate our various products in a single container. Scale studies are jobs that require serious investment. There will be a need for much larger factories, a much larger machine park and, of course, much more working capital. "The problem of doing this in a clustering or joint way is at least disadvantages in terms of working capital, even if we combine the factory and machinery, so the public administration must determine the sectoral awareness and priorities by predicting the growth performances of the sector and separating the incentives," Kaplangı said, adding that with economies of scale, exports will increase by at least 100 percent in the near term. He pointed out that it could increase by 50.
